Breathe PA works to improve respiratory health through education, support services, and community outreach across the Commonwealth.
In 2025, Breathe PA expanded its reach to 37 counties and strengthened partnerships with schools and the judicial system. Smokeless Saturday, an intervention-based tobacco cessation program for youth caught with nicotine products on school property, received nearly 1,000 referrals from 145 participating school districts and 19 local judges, while delivering tobacco and nicotine prevention education to 2,796 students and staff, helping young people quit tobacco and make healthier choices.
As part of our work in schools, 365 students participated in our School Asthma Initiative (SAI), which provides asthma education to children and their families. We also trained 54 school nurses and distributed 365 asthma kits to students who needed extra support. In addition, 35 school nurses received backup albuterol to keep on hand in case of emergencies.
Through our Patient Assistance Program, Breathe PA supports individuals who need help affording care. This included providing financial assistance to 131 patients to attend Pulmonary Rehabilitation, supplying essential respiratory medications to 234 patients, and offering lung health education to 911 individuals, comprising both patients and professionals.
Our Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) Program also provides education and support, delivering 277 one-on-one sessions at 61 senior centers and assisting 60 individuals with CPAP supplies and personalized education to improve treatment and comfort.
Breathe PA’s Patient Assistance Programming is available in 10 southwestern Pennsylvania counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington, and Westmoreland.
Breathe PA provides these and other services through state and local government funding, foundation and estate support, contracts with local nonprofit organizations, and individual donors in our community.
