Our Impact

We help western Pennsylvanians breathe better and live healthier.

Breathe PA works to improve respiratory health through education, support services, and community outreach across the Commonwealth.

Between July 2024 and June 2025, Breathe PA expanded its tobacco prevention and cessation programs into new areas, including northwestern, central, and eastern Pennsylvania, reaching as far as Philadelphia County. Smokeless Saturday, an intervention-based tobacco cessation program for youth caught with nicotine products on school property, received nearly 1,000 referrals and reached more than 700 students in 145 school districts, helping young people quit tobacco and make healthier choices.

As part of our work in schools, 294 students participated in our School Asthma Initiative (SAI), which provides asthma education to children and their families. We also trained 16 school nurses and distributed nearly 294 asthma kits to students who needed extra support. In addition, 51 school nurses received backup albuterol to keep on hand in case of emergencies.

Through our Patient Assistance Program, Breathe PA supports individuals who need help affording care. This included providing financial assistance to 81 patients to attend Pulmonary Rehabilitation, supplying essential respiratory medications to 186 patients, and offering lung health education to 931 individuals, comprising both patients and professionals.

Our Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) Program also provides education and support, delivering 192 one-on-one sessions at over 51 senior centers and assisting 47 individuals with CPAP supplies and personalized education to improve treatment and comfort.

Breathe PA’s Patient Assistance Programming is available in 10 southwestern Pennsylvania counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington, and Westmoreland.

Breathe PA provides these and other services through state and local government funding, foundation and estate support, contracts with local nonprofit organizations, and individual donors in our community.
