Direct Lung Education

Breathe Pennsylvania provides lung disease education with a focus on COPD and asthma management to individuals with the goal of educating them about their disease and improving their quality of life. If you suffer from lung disease or you are from a healthcare facility that has patients that could benefit from lung education, Breathe Pennsylvania can meet with you or your patient for a training session that includes:

  • An overview of the disease, including symptoms, medications, and care and cleaning of respiratory equipment
  • Instruction on management tools such as spacers and peak flow meters

If you are suffering from chronic lung disease such as COPD or asthma, or if you are a physician or an employee of a pulmonary facility, and would like more information about this program, please call us at 724-772-1750 or visit our Contact page.

What Is Oxygen Therapy?

Oxygen therapy provides supplemental (additional) oxygen. It is prescribed to people with lung disease or heart disease and low oxygen levels on room air. When your baseline oxygen levels are low, insufficient oxygen is delivered to your cells, causing symptoms and damage to your organs over time. Oxygen therapy helps you breathe better and live more actively.

What Is COPD?

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, more commonly known as COPD, is comprised of two main conditions emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Many people who have COPD have both emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

What is Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a chronic condition that affects as many people. Some are unaware that they may suffer from OSA, which is responsible for most cases of sleep apnea. Eighty percent of the cases of moderate or severe OSA remain undiagnosed.

Vaping & Lung Health

Vaping Devices, also known as vapes, electronic cigarettes, e-cigarettes, e-vaporizers, or electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), are battery operated devices that people use to inhale an aerosol, which typically contains nicotine, flavorings and other chemicals or additives.

Manage Your Asthma

Asthma

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease marked by coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. More than 14 million Americans have been diagnosed with this often misunderstood and potentially fatal disease. In Western Pennsylvania, an estimated 240,000 people have asthma — 41 % are children under the age of 18. Asthma is controllable. You can learn how to manage your asthma or help a family member breathe easier by knowing the warning signs of asthma, encouraging proper diagnosis and following a treatment plan prescribed by a physician.
